Yoga has gone through many transformations since the earliest cave drawings of men in lotus position etched into the walls over 5000 years ago. At its core and history, Yoga was part of belief system in the Far East: In Buddhism, meditation was at its core and used as a path to reach Nirvana or Enlightenment. In Hinduism it is seen as a way of life to perfect one’s self physically, mentally and spiritually.

Yoga works the mind through focused concentration, the body through the yoga postures, and the breath through the flow of yoga. There are approximately 1000 yoga postures and a variety of yoga styles that have developed through the unique character of yoga gurus and the needs of the yoga population. In the 1960s there was an influx of westerners travelling to India and through their contact with yogis, Yoga immigrated to the West becoming one of the most popular forms of exercise.

The benefits of yoga include relaxation and reduction of stress, strengthening the body, more flexibility, better balance, and better posture.
